The World Science Fiction Convention - aka Worldcon among fandom - is being held in Seattle this year (in about a month from when I’m writing this). Karawynn and I will be there. We used to live in Seattle so this will a bit of a homecoming, and I very much look forward to reconnecting with friends (both local and skiffy)… assuming we arrive without incident.1
Not a panelist this time
Which is all well and good. I don’t have anything to promote and the expertise I’d bring may well be out of date and/or other panelists are just as good or better. Worldcon has a ton of great panelists, many of whom are friends or professional acquaintances. There are literally hundreds of panels.
Finding me
If you’re going and want to meet up, leave a comment here, or message me, and I’ll try to make that happen. Worldcon is huge and while serendipitous meetings are possible (and can be fun), such things are unreliable by definition.
I started to look at the massive list of panels to see if there are any that I will definitely be attending. And no, it is too much, I can’t even sum up. That said, here are some likely places:
Hotel bar with outdoor seating - Hyatt Regency
More TBA
The Trump administration’s overly xenophobic approach to immigration has dissuaded international travelers from visiting the United States, and many professionals who would normally attend - who, in fact, had planned to attend - have changed their plans. Most of them are staying home.
The main reason for this is the myriad reports of US customs officials detaining foreign nationals visiting the country, sometimes for days or weeks. Sometimes deporting them even if they have valid visas, even if they have no criminal record. Can’t blame international fans and pros for choosing to sit this Worldcon out.
As US citizens, Karawynn and I have decided to come anyway… despite the reports of US citizens having their electronic devices searched and of being detained for no valid reason.

We’re not planning on attending, but would love to see you two while you’re here.
